DISCOGRAPHY
At one point, this website contained discographies on every record company that Murray recorded for—everything from Aeolian to Zon-o-phone. If you have not heard about the announcement of my forthcoming Murray book, click here.
To save some material for my forthcoming Murray discography (to appear in print), I have withdrawn a couple of listings that appeared on here. One of them is the Victor Talking Machine Company. Since Victor recordings have been well documented in several places, and has had little collaboration on this site, I have decided to withdraw it. Those wishing to know more about Murray's Victor recordings are encouraged to visit UCSB's Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings.
Even though my research on Murray's Edison recordings were 99% original, I have also withdrawn most of his cylinders and disc masters, since they also had little collaboration here. Within the next few months, I will be revising my original Edison discography to include all the correct dates, takes, and other data from the Edison National Historic Site, so that my new work will be better than the one that was originally presented on here.
Since most of the other labels that Murray recorded for still require review and revision, I have left several labels still posted. To help encourage and expedite the process, I have now posted a new "want list" for collectors to review and submit data:
This discography is a continuation of the original work compiled by Barbara Prosser in the 1970s, to the additions made by Frank Hoffmann, and finally to current collectors and publications. I encourage everyone to inspect their collections for matrix and take numbers (any small numbers found in the runout or label area), missing composers (from sheet music), company catalogs (for release dates and missing issues), typos (on my part), and rare and obscure labels where Murray sings or participates without label credit. Please contact me if you can help. All contributions will be fully acknowledged and attributed as soon as possible.
